Research, Restoration and Natural Resources Management

Estuary staff, dedicated volunteers, students and other interested agencies do a great deal of research, restoration and monitoring at the Tijuana Estuary. Their experience and the information and data they gather will lead to future projects as well as a better understanding of our wetland and how to protect it. With regular research and monitoring we can establish baseline data for the Tijuana Estuary. Using the baseline data as reference we can then easily detect changes, providing us with an early warning system for potential problems.

The research and monitoring mission at the Tijuana Estuary is to:

Contribute to an improved understanding of estuarine processes and dynamics that will benefit the management of the Tijuana Estuary and coastal ecosystems and (through monitoring) to improve the ability of resource managers to detect, quantify and predict both short and long-term changes in the health and viability of estuarine ecosystems.
